The town of Galileo Galilei, father of Physics, who performed his first gravitational experiments from the Tower in Piazza dei Miracoli. The square, famous for its tower, includes the Battistero, the Duomo, the Camposanto, all the monuments showing the different steps from Pisan roman style to gothic.
Its worldwide famous University is represented by the Scuola Normale in the old Piazza dei Cavalieri.
Every year, on 16th June, Pisa is beautifully illuminated in the Luminaria . It is an amazing sight , squares, monuments and palaces are lit with candles in honour of San Ranieri the patron saint of the town.
Not far from Pisa you can admire the Chiesa di San Piero a Grado, an example of roman architecture and the Certosa di Pisa, where the “trompe l’oeil” pictorial technique originated. |
